Salalah celebrated two achievements reflecting its progress in enhancing quality of life and sustainability: its designation as a “Healthy City” and its recognition as a “Resilience Hub.” The celebration was held under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar.
The recognition of Salalah as a “Resilience Hub” follows its international recognition by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) under the “Making Cities Resilient 2030” programme, making Salalah the first city in the Sultanate of Oman, the second in the Gulf region, and the third in the Arab world to receive this international recognition as a Resilience Hub.
This achievement reflects Salalah’s capabilities in disaster risk reduction and enhancing preparedness and response to challenges, alongside ongoing efforts to develop institutional and community-based systems that strengthen its ability to adapt and ensure the continuity of its vital functions under various circumstances.
The “Salalah Healthy City” project represents a model of integrated cooperation among government and private sector institutions, civil society organisations, and the local community.
Nature takes centre stage during the Khareef season in Dhofar, as greenery blankets the mountains and plains, while mist flows between the highlands, creating a captivating landscape that attracts visitors to enjoy an exceptional atmosphere.
