Electronic media in the Sultanate of Oman continues to witness significant development, reflecting its ability to keep pace with global advancements and harness emerging technologies to deliver distinguished digital content aligned with the Ministry of Information’s vision for the media of the future. The Directorate General of Electronic Media runs the Ministry’s official social media accounts and the information Portal website, which provides comprehensive official information about the Sultanate of Oman to internet users worldwide. The portal also hosts a digital encyclopedia offering integrated official information presented through a variety of media formats in eight languages: Arabic, English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Chinese, and Japanese.
The Directorate General of Electronic Media also runs Ayn Platform, which was launched as a comprehensive gateway integrating audiovisual content and audiobooks, reinforcing the position of Omani media within the global digital landscape. The platform follows international best practices in digital media services through the production of a range of exclusive works that enrich digital content and provide an engaging and enjoyable user experience for audiences of all ages.
In addition, Ayn features a dedicated children’s interface that offers diverse educational, entertainment, and cultural content, including animated productions, television and radio programmes, audio content, audiobooks, and other age-appropriate materials designed for users between the ages of four and eighteen. The interface has been carefully designed to provide a seamless and engaging user experience through child-friendly visual elements and colours inspired by the platform’s identity. Particular attention has also been given to accessibility, ensuring ease of use for all audiences, including persons with hearing and visual impairments.
