The flag of Sultante of Oman was adopted by a royal decree for the first time on 18 Shawwal, 1391 AH, corresponding to December 17, 1970. It has the national emblem which depicts crossed swords over a khanjar, a traditional curved dagger. The emblem is placed in the upper corner near the mast on both sides. The flag is the state's symbol of sovereignty and the evidence of its presence, independence and official participation. It consists of three colors: white, red and green.
The flag is flown over on buildings of ministries and other government authorities; military and security institutions; establishments related to the state; buildings of Omani embassies; consulates and trade representation offices; airports, castles and fortresses; seaports and foreign ships and vessels as they enter Omani ports and Omani naval vessels. The raising of the flag on the private sector bodies and establishments shall be by a license issued in accordance with the regulations determined by the competent authority.
It shall be taken into account when raising the flag to fit the dimensions and specifications specified in the law, and must be the highest when raised with the flags of the military and security agencies and private sector bodies. The flag may be raised at national celebrations for national and religious occasions and special events provided that it is raised in a manner in which its sanctity is maintained.
The Flag specifications
The Omani flag is rectangular and consists of a vertical stripe next to the mast and three horizontal stripes. The red vertical stripe is one-third the length, the horizontal stripes are equal in width (white at the top, red in the middle and connected with the vertical stripe adjacent to the mast, and green at the bottom)

Explanation of colors
- White depicts the conviction of the Omani people in peace and prosperity.
- Red, which is dominant, has been adopted from the old Omani flag (which was red) and this symbolizes the battles fought by Omanis for the eviction of foreign invaders from the country,
- Green represents fertility and greenery of the land.
Masts are specified as follow:
Six-metre mast is installed at main and sub-streets
Ten-metre mast is installed on building of one-storey and above.
Twelve-metre mast is installed on the ground in front of buildings and at airports facing guest\'s aircraft and in front of protocols hall.

The emblem consists of two crossed traditional Omani swords interspersed with the Omani dagger. The emblem is placed on the facades of the government buildings and on official documents, papers and seals of the state. it is prohibited to use the emblem or logo as a trademark or for commercial advertisement or publicity.
Likewise, the logo shall not be put on locally made or imported jewelry, products or other goods without prior permission from the Minister of Commerce and Industry after the approval of the Minister. The offer or sale of items in the shops produced in violation of the provisions of this Article shall be prohibited.
In all cases, the protection provided for in the preceding article shall apply to the emblem, whether alone or in conjunction with any emblems, drawings, forms or images, or incorporated into the components of any of the above. The protection also includes emblems, signs and symbols approved by government agencies and military and security bodies when the logo is part of its components.
