The pediatric surgery team at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital within the University Medical City has successfully performed the first near-total pancreatectomy on a 12-week-old infant, using minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery in accordance with the latest medical practices. This achievement enhances the level of advanced specialized healthcare in The Sultanate of Oman and supports ongoing efforts to develop high-precision health services and localize modern therapeutic technologies.
The procedure was carried out under the leadership of Dr. Zainab bint Nasser Al Balushi, Senior Consultant in Pediatric Surgery, with the participation of a multidisciplinary medical and nursing team. The child is currently in a stable condition, with normal blood glucose levels.
Such precise surgical interventions are considered advanced procedures used to treat certain rare and complex pediatric cases. They require a high level of specialized expertise and advanced facilities to ensure the best possible therapeutic outcomes.
