Muscat, ONA) – His Excellency Dr. Hamad bin Muhammad Al-Dhowiani, Chairman of the National Records and Archives Authority, approved the document management system for the two companies of Oman Dry Dock and Oman Post, both of the Asyad Group, which includes the tables of documents retention periods and their classification system.
The adoption of the system comes within the framework of the Asyad Group management’s interest in implementing a modern document management system at the level of the companies under its control and in accordance with the National Documents and Archives Law issued by Royal Decree No. 60/2007. The two companies are the seventh in the group to sign this system.
The document management system was approved on behalf of the two companies by Dr. Ibrahim bin Bakhit Al-Naziri, Acting CEO of the Oman Shipping Company and Oman Dry Dock Company, and Abdulmalik bin Abdul Karim Al Balushi, CEO of Oman Post.
The document management system and retention period tables are the main pillar for building a modern system in accordance with the latest international specifications and standards adopted in document management, which is based on recording, classifying and coding documents according to the classification system prepared for this purpose, in order to distinguish them and facilitate reference to them.
The construction and application of this system also contributes to processing documents from their inception and through the stages they go through and respecting their retention periods, which will help in legalizing all processes of destruction, transfer and migration of documents on the one hand, and ending with the transition to electronic document management on the other hand.
This approval came after efforts made by specialists in charge of preparing these tools after they passed through several stages, the last of which was the final approval of the National Records and Archives Authority on the retention period tables and their classification system after the preparation of the nominal list of documents in the two companies in implementation of the requirements of the National Documents and Archives Law.
