Muscat,(ONA) - The Cultural Club is organizing a workshop for children in the field of self short stories, via video conferencing entitled “Digitally Drawing Comics”, during the period from 5 to 9 July.
The workshop is presented by Ibtihaj Al Harthiya, children's artist and writer and the founder of Dahareez Art Studio. She has several books for children, such as “Me and Mother”, the winner of the Etisalat Prize for Best Text, and the newly published book “Who Am I?”, published by Dar Takween. Ibtihaj Al Harthiya, through Dahareez Arts, also offers a self-paced tutorial on digitally drawing and writing comics via digital educational platforms.
The topic of this workshop was chosen to be a start for those talented in comics drawing in order to prepare them to specialize in it and learn its fundamentals.
The workshop includes three recorded videos, each one lasting two hours. During the first day, participants will be introduced to the storyboard and comics and its artistic history, with examples from different cultures (Japanese school, French school, and American school), introducing the elements of the story directed to the comics and ways to write them, in addition to reading and discussing examples of different scenarios. By the end of the day, the participating students will be able to write a three-page short story script.
On the second day, the participants divide the script on the page, distribute the text and the image, build a visually convincing character for the written text, as well as build a visual, life- environment appropriate for the character. In the end, they will be able to design a character (3 drawings with front, back and side) and draw sketches with the distribution of text for the pre-written scenario.
On the third and last day, the participants will be able to draw and colour three pages and edit them using the required programs.
It is worth noting that the workshop was prepared by publishing electronic forms for participants wishing to join. To achieve the goal of establishing this workshop, the participants will be practically trained through their use of the programs: Photoshop, In Design, Scanner or Camera. The participants' ages were 15 years and above.
