Madrid,(ONA) The Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, in cooperation with the Arab House in Madrid, is organizing an exhibition entitled “Without Borders ... Dismantling borders through art”.
The exhibition, which will last until next September 6, will host 16 artists, whose works are technically varied between paper printing, vacuum construction, artistic performance, structural formation, video art, drawing, photography and ink handwriting.
The idea of the exhibition is that the concept of borders has multiple meanings, among which are the imaginary borders that indicate the threat of the “other” that we do not know. That is why the boundaries that prevent sympathy for the other must be dismantled by erasing stereotypes around them that have nothing to do with cultural and social realities.
The exhibition seeks to form a state of sympathy with the artists' visions and understand their interpretations regarding the existing borders, which leads the audience to question the supposed wrong sides and begin to demolish the imaginary borders. In this way, one can learn more about the “other” and build social bridges between close cultures.
According to the introduction to the exhibition, the participating artists developed their conceptions of restrictions and boundaries using collective and hybrid languages and technologies, in line with contemporary international art languages, which helps to understand the self and the “other” together.
Dr. Khaled Khreis, Director General of the Jordan National Museum of Fine Arts, and Dr. Ruthio Villalonga from Spain will supervise the organization of the exhibition, which will move to Cordoba next September. Among the participants are: Alaa Younis, Asia Shishani, Dima Shaheen, Dina Haddadin, Firas Shehadeh, Juman Al-Nimri, Khaldoun Hijazin, Mays Al-Azab, Muhammad Al-Hawari, Momen Malkawi, Ra’ed Ibrahim, and Rima Shatat.
