Muscat, December 7 (ONA) - The National Field Research Centre for Environmental Conservation (NFRCEC) at the Diwan of the Royal Court issued the new issue of Al Washaq bulletin bearing the number 60. The new issue, which was issued in electronic format in Arabic and English, included several important topics that dealt with a number of environmental phenomena and other topics.
The main issue of Al Washaq in its Issue No. 60 dealt with the environmental dimension of Oman 2040 Vision. Al Washaq said that the environment is receiving special attention from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. His Majesty embodied this interest by planting the frankincense tree at the Razat royal farm in Salalah. This generous gesture from His Majesty stems from his wise vision to encourage all members of society to plant trees and preserve the environment. His Majesty also embodied his concern for the environment when His Majesty presided over the Oman Vision 2040, which places the environment as a national priority that everyone must preserve and take care of.
Al Washaq emphasized that Oman 2040 vision has set in mind a number of goals and the mechanism for their implementation in order to achieve environmental sustainability and advancement at the highest levels. In other topics, Al Washaq dealt with the issue of the presence of the Arabian tiger in the west of the Wilayat of Dhalkut in the Dhofar Governorate, where a recent environmental study carried out by the Environmental Conservation Office at the Diwan of the Royal Court, represented by the Department of Environmental Affairs in Salalah, during the current year 2020 revealed a new scientific record confirming the presence of the Arabian tiger in the area west of Dhalkut in the Governorate of Dhofar, and the office had previously carried out some field studies in the region, but it did not record any indications of the presence of the Arabian tiger in the west of the wilayat despite the fact that the people reported the existence of this rare animal. The results of the new study also showed the monitoring and documentation of other rare wild mammal species.
The new issue also dealt with some local, Gulf and Arab news related to the environment, as it focused on the news of the meeting of the Environment Authority’s board of directors, the review of the 2021 action plan, and the news of the Sultanate’s progress in the Environmental Performance Index for 2020 issued by Yale University of America. It also focused on the news of Amanah Waqf Funds Management Company launching its first investment projects in converting mosques into green, environmentally friendly buildings powered by solar energy for consumption and production of surplus ones, by signing an agreement to convert a mosque in the Sultanate in cooperation with a small and medium-sized enterprise specialized in this field.
