The International Sports Forum for University Sports kicks off

Muscat,(ONA) - The International Sports Forum for University Sports will start  via video conferencing, with the participation of a group of those in charge and supervisors of Omani university sports, in addition to students of higher education institutions. The forum coincides with the suspension of university sporting activity in various countries of the world and will continue until August 14.

The forum will discuss the general strategy of the International University Sports Federation and the role of regional and local federations in spreading university sports in various institutions of higher education. The history of the International Federation since its founding will also be reviewed, highlighting the most important sporting events that university life has witnessed over the past 7 decades.

The forum will address the challenges facing university sports in light of the spread of the corona virus, in addition to the importance of establishing electronic sports such as the FIFA20 tournament, which witnessed the crowning of our national team player, Imran Al-Dhahli, with a gold medal.

The Sultanate will be represented in this forum by members of the committee's board of directors and sports supervisors in various institutions of higher education. Students from Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat College, Higher College of Technology, Ibri Technical College, Al Bayan College, Modern College of Commerce and Science and Buraimi University will also participate in this event.

In this context, Dr. Salem bin Khamis Al-Oraimi, head of the Omani Committee for University Sports, said, “This participation comes in light of the current circumstances that prevented the establishment of a gathering celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the International Federation, which will discuss several aspects that touch the current reality.”

“In many of its meetings that took place via video conferencing, the committee discussed the sports activities that will be approved by the International University Sports Federation and which are held remotely and the importance of organizing them among the various institutions of higher education during the next academic year,” he added.
