The new season in the Netherlands begins on September 12

Amsterdam, June 25 (ONA) - The Dutch Football Association has announced that the 2020/2021 season will start on September 12, after the government announced to reduce precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

The association said in a statement that “the expected start of the league will be on 12 and 13 September,” adding that players need between 6 and 8 weeks for physical readiness.

The Netherlands is expected to play Poland and Italy on September 4 and 7 in the European Nations League.

The Dutch authorities announced that football stadiums can reopen their doors to the masses in July, but according to preventive measures, such as a mandatory spacing of 1.5 meters between the occupied seats, which means that “the stadiums will not be completely full” in this transitional phase, according to the local association.

In April, the Dutch League became the first large European Championship to cancel its season after the “Covid-19” outbreak.

No team has been declared the league champion, with Ajax Amsterdam and Alkmaar equal in the lead.
