Bayern Munich's Karl-Heinz Rummenigge expects a decline in football transfer fees, salaries

Berlin, (ONA) - Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said that he does not expect any transfer deal of 100 million euros ($ 112 million) in Europe this summer and that he believes the value of the acquisition deals will decrease in the future.

Rummenigge said in an interview with Das Handelsblatt today, that even the prominent players cannot expect an increase in their salaries, due to the pandemic crisis of the novel coronavirus (Covid 19).

The transfer market has changed. There is not a lot of liquidity around and so there is a lack of demand. But there is no lack of supply for players eager to transfer that will create adjustments to the prices,” he added.

As for deals close to or exceeding 100 million euros, Rummenigge said, “I do not expect that as much of this amount could be paid to have a player during this season, whether in Germany or Europe as a whole.”

The clubs have been heavily affected financially, after competitions were interrupted for months due to the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the absence of fans from the stands since the resumption of competitions, which drives clubs to save on spending.

Several European clubs have announced in earlier times that they will cut salaries. Rummenigge added that Bayern Munich, who clinched its title in the Bundesliga, for the eighth consecutive season, would seek to “enhance the depth of the team” instead of spending a huge amount to sign a single player.
