Oman Occupies Second Arab Position in Digital Access Pass Index 2020

The Sultanate took second place among Arab countries in the assessment of Digital Access Pass Index 2020, issued by the Atlanta-based Global Initiative for Inclusive Information and Communication.

The Sultanate ranked 3rd regionally (in the Middle East and North Africa region) and 16th internationally in the index in which Qatar took the lead by gaining 65.5 points.

The index listed the countries that strive to provide global standards for activists in empowering the disabled to assess and the progress these countries make and opportunities for the disabled to have digital access.

The report commended governments of world countries for publishing laws, policies and regulations that guarantee the disabled’s right to digital access and total ICT services.

The report noted the persisting gap in levels of ability to execute procedures and the results received from ICT domains in the index this year.

The report urges all stakeholders to increase investment in enhancing global and multilateral cooperation to ensure the disabled’s access in light of relevant international conventions and sustainable development goals (SDGs).ONA
