The Sultanate is Committed to Support UN SDGs

The Sultanate affirmed, in a speech before the Second Committee of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, that it has established an integrated system for monitoring and evaluating the indicators of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) and a methodology for measuring progress in achieving the goals of sustainable development 2030.

The speech was delivered via videoconferencing by Sayyid Ahmed bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Economic Affairs Officer at the Sultanate’s permanent mission to the United Nations in New York. Al Busaidi highlighted the Sultanate’s efforts to fulfill its obligations to implement the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan, referring to the voluntary national review it presented during the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) held last year.

In the speech, he touched on the most prominent achievements made by the Sultanate in implementing the sustainable development plan. He said,” The Sultanate has integrated the dimensions and goals of the sustainable development into development strategies and plans, and allocated budgets to ensure their achievement in the medium and long terms, to become a major component of Oman Vision 2040.”

He added that the Sultanate has formed a high-profile national committee to achieve the goals of sustainable development, pointing out that the committee includes members from relevant ministries and government agencies, the Council of Oman, representatives of the private sector and NGOs. He further added that the Sultanate provided the opportunity for all segments of society to participate in setting their priorities and future aspirations when preparing the vision document (Oman 2040).

Sayyid Ahmed bin Hamoud Al Busaidi concluded his speech by affirming the Sultanate’s commitment to support the efforts of the United Nations, as well as its continuous support for the work of this committee to successfully achieve its goals.ONA
