Campaign to remove the harmful mesquite trees in the Wilayat of Muqshen

Muqshen, September 24 (ONA) - Today, the Municipality of Dhofar, represented by the Municipality of Muqshen, launched a campaign which lasts for four months to remove the mesquite trees, during which its presence sites were targeted and removed to limit its spread and eliminate it in its various breeding sites in the wilayat.

Engineer Khalid bin Ghanim Al-Hazar Al-Kathiri, Director of the Municipality of Muqshen, said that the campaign aims to limit the spread of the mesquite tree because of its negative effects on groundwater, pastures and animals in terms of causing it to recede local plants and trees in their breeding areas by competing for water and nutrients, in addition to the containment of toxic substances in its leaves. Mesquite trees also cause damage to human health due to the sensitivity of pollen to some individuals and lead to the death of animals due to their feeding on the mesquite fruits, which are also one of the factors causing salinity in wells and groundwater.
