Muscat, September 22 (ONA) - The Sultanate today participated in the United Nations celebrating its 75th anniversary by video conferencing. His Excellency Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Abdullah Al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council, delivered the Sultanate’s speech in which he said: “I am honoured to convey to your gathering the greetings of His Majesty the Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, wishing you success in your work.
His Excellency, Chairman of the State Council, the added, “The Sultanate values highly its strategic partnership with the United Nations, affirms its continued support for this partnership and relies on the position that the United Nations has acquired over the past decades since its establishment, which is a pivotal position in the system of international relations and represents a focal point and beacon of hope, security, justice and peace, and an umbrella for the peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with the provisions, principles and rules of international law.
“We are meeting today to mark the seventy-fifth anniversary of the founding of the United Nations at a time when the world is witnessing great unrest and an unprecedented global health crisis with serious economic and social impacts”, His Excellency added. In addition, he expressed the Sultanate's hope that this crisis will motivate the whole world to overcome it with strong will, great determination and a deeper readiness for dialogue, cooperation and solidarity as one global family that works towards securing a better future for all.
His Excellency affirmed that the Sultanate appreciates the efforts of United Nations organizations and programs in combating poverty and disease, promoting opportunities for peace and harmony, and achieving sustainable development goals, as well as its efforts in the field of environmental conservation and addressing climate issues, global warming, extremism and terrorism in various parts of the world.
He explained that the Sultanate pursues in its foreign policies and international relations an approach that respects the noble principles of the United Nations, and supports opportunities and endeavours for peace, understanding, cultural diversity, tolerance, positive dialogue and close cooperation with other nations and peoples, and resolving conflicts by peaceful means in accordance with the provisions, principles and rules of international law, and urges support and development of the United Nations in a way that enhances its capabilities and performance in facing the challenges of the times, and to play its pivotal role in international relations to the fullest extent.
His Excellency concluded the Sultanate’s speech by affirming that the Sultanate will remain an effective partner with the United Nations to further advance its role in achieving its noble goals and objectives in achieving international peace and harmony and building a world dominated by security, stability and prosperity.
