TUNIS: Dr Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (Alesco), said that the Arab organisation appreciates the model of Omani renaissance which, he said, brought about comprehensive development in all spheres of life, notably in the fields of education and technology, while at the same time safeguarding the heritage.
The Alesco is keen to tap the Omani model in its endeavours to enrich the march of joint Arab action, he added.
Ould Amar described the Sultanate as an active member of the Alesco which participates continuously in all of the organisation’s conferences and educational, intellectual and scientific events.
The Alesco often approaches Oman’s National Committee for Education, Culture and Sciences to benefit from its expertise in various spheres, said Ould Amar, adding that this National Committee is an active member of the Alesco’s consultative committees.
Ould Amar commended the Sultanate’s remarkable contribution in formulating the “Arab Theatre Development Strategy” endorsed by Arab Culture Ministers in Riyadh in 2016. Quoting an example in this context, he said that Oman played a leading role in composing collective research on common Arab head gears and their implications. Ould Amar added that the Sultanate hosted a number of Alesco’s training workshops on building capacities in the field of safeguarding cultural heritage.
Speaking about future plans of the Alesco, Ould Amar said that the Arab organisation seeks to intensify the use of technology in developing education, with emphasis on the 4IR (fourth industrial revolution), artificial intelligence techniques and methods of empowering children through the introduction of digitised innovative skills at an early age. - ONA
