The Sultanate of Oman is considered one of the Middle East’s most peaceful countries. The Sydney-based Institute of Economics granted the Sultanate zero degrees in the Global Terrorism Index for Oman’s not experiencing any terrorist threat in 2016. It is a rare case of its kind among Middle East countries and the world at large, an evidence of the stability and security enjoyed by the country.

Since Sultan Qaboos assumed power, the Sultanate has become the world’s fastest growing country in terms of human resources development, according to a UN survey spanning the period from 1970 to 2010. Oman made this achievement despite the belated discovery of oil, which started only in 1968.

The Sultanate is considered a distinguished tourism destination, due to its environmental and cultural diversity, which is clearly manifested by the Daimaniyat Islands and a range of coastal areas and exotic spots like Al Jabal Al-Akhdar in the Dakhiliyah (Interior) Governorate. This is in addition to modern facilities in the centres of all governorates.
