The Royal Cars Museum was established under Royal Decree by The Late Sultan Qaboos bin Said to reflect his passion and interest in the world of automobiles. Since the early 1970s, The Late Sultan Qaboos was renowned for his deep admiration for vintage, distinguished, and rare cars. The collection began with two vehicles once owned by Sultan Said bin Taimur and later expanded to include the classic cars of both late Sultans, together with a number of rare and modern cars of that era. In 2012, the museum building was constructed to house the collection, and access was initially restricted to guests of the Sultan.
Under the Royal Directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the museum was opened to the public to showcase its rich and unique collection, featuring a wide range of vehicles that have been carefully preserved over the years. The museum offers automotive enthusiasts a valuable opportunity to explore a significant aspect of their passion. Several vehicles formerly used by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and The Late Sayyid Tarik bin Taimur were added to the collection by Royal Order.
The Royal Cars Museum is located within Al Barakah Palace in the Wilayat of Al Seeb, clearly reflecting the importance and esteemed status of the museum. Visitors with advance reservations can access the museum through Al Safinat Gate in Al Seeb, which is designated for museum guests.
