The Cultural Club is a driver of the Sultanate’s intellectual revival, with its mission to harmonise literary, cultural, intellectual and scientific events. The combined effect serves the advancement of intellectual and cultural dialogue internally and enhances Oman’s contribution to broader trends regionally and internationally. The Civilization Studies Centre, meanwhile, was established in conjunction with the restructuring of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and youth. Its multi-pronged mission is to conduct research into Omani civilisation and culture, with a focus on scientific output that has not been broadly recognised; knowledge-based reconstruction; a respectful empowerment of research and research workers; and the cultivation of a generation motivated to specialise in the advancement of culture in general and of Omani civilisation in particular.

The Omani Society for Writers and Literati (OSWL) is a powerful presence on the literary scene, influencing written culture by way of a regular succession of events, conferences, symposia and celebrations to honour talented writers. It also publishes books and periodicals, and in 2022 was responsible for 46 literary publications, encompassing poetry, fiction in the form of novels and short stories, drama, essays, scientific studies, reviews, children’s literature and new studies on the economic and social history of the Sultanate.
A popular OSWL event is the annual Cultural Creativity award, which continues to grow in stature among writers in Oman and to strengthen its position amid the various awards that acknowledge cultural excellence in the Sultanate.
