Dams in Oman

The importance of dams lies in their ability to retain a portion of rainwater for various uses, including replenishing groundwater reservoirs and mitigating seawater intrusion into freshwater aquifers. Additionally, these dams supply further groundwater to support various development projects and offer protection against flood risks.

Wadi Dayqah Dam

Located in the Wilayat of Qurayyat in Muscat Governorate, Wadi Dayqah Dam is one of the largest projects in the Sultanate of Oman in the field of dam construction and water use. It serves as an architectural and tourist landmark, well known throughout the country. Tourists from both inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman visit it throughout the year.

Wadi Dayqah Dam has two main reservoirs: a primary and a secondary one. It offers several visitor amenities such as rest areas, a dam garden, and basic facilities including toilets, restaurants, and more. The villages situated below the dam present a picturesque view nestled between high mountains and agricultural lands along the valley banks. The crystal-clear waters of the valley stream through the centre, enhancing the scenic beauty. When the dam's lake is full, the water cascades down like waterfalls, creating a magnificent natural spectacle that lasts for several days. Peak tourism at the dam occurs during holidays, events, and festivals.
